Property operating expenses generally include real estate taxes and insurance, utilities, repairs and maintenance and other operating expenses of the properties. Property operating expenses were reduced by approximately $0.5 million for the three months ended September 30, 2016 due to the net adjustments in the fair value of contingent purchase price initially recognized upon the acquisition of three properties.

Compensation-related expenses increased approximately $0.2 million and professional fees, including closing expenses related to the Company's acquisitions, increased approximately $0.3 million in the third quarter of 2016 compared to the same period in 2015.
